This is how it all began:
We have a lot of chain link fencing because of our dog business and that type of fencing eats weed whackers. We had heard stories about renting goats in Seattle and San Francisco, but couldn't find anything of the sort in our area. We started doing research online, with breeders and with our veterinarian and fell in Love with these little goats.
We made our first adventure to the 2010 National Convention in Hamilton, OH with the intention of obtaining 2 pygmies, Rocky and Phoebe. Well, we ended up getting 2 other does as well, Lily and Shelly, unknown to my husband until I arrived home with 4 pygmies in my car after the 8 hour drive. He was very reserved about the idea of getting more critters, but then I found him sitting in the goat pen only a couple days after we arrived home.
We are new to the pygmy scene this year. We have had our share of ups and downs while getting started in this wonderful adventure and have made some wonderful friends along the way.
With a lot of advice, research and digging up the agriculture training I received at Cornell University, we are on our way towards focusing on structure, personality and ease of kidding. Quality not quantity is our goal.
Our herd now consists of 7 does, 2 wethers and 2 bucks. And babies hopefully due in April and May!
Growing up with horses, dogs and many other furry creatures and now owning a dog boarding and training business, this was a different adventure for all of us, but have been enjoyably rewarded with our new little additions.
